Detailed analysis of how India has been discrediting Pakistan for decades

Many international reports have uncovered that an Indian disinformation network has been actively working to discredit countries in conflict with India in Asia — especially Pakistan.

1. Indian disinformation campaign against Pakistan

The long-term objective of the campaign gives credence to the term ‘fifth-generation warfare,’ as it intends to reinforce pro-India sentiment while pushing anti-Pakistan sentiment across the world by manipulating the media.

With a dual goal to consolidate India’s power and image globally and damage the reputation of Pakistan, the Indian network has worked diligently since 2005 to get support from international institutions such as the EU and UN.

Earlier, the National Security Adviser, Moeed Yusuf, revealed that data pertaining to anti-Pakistan and anti-Pak army social media trends were launched between 2019 and 2021. The majority of the trends have been traced to India and Afghanistan.

Yusuf said there had been five broad motifs that can be seen in the trends:

EU Disinformation Lab:

Last year, the EU disinfo Lab published a report outlining a vast Indian disinformation network across Europe.

The report revealed that nearly 750 coordinated fake local media outlets in 119 countries were serving Indian interests and multiple dubious think tanks and NGOs. The network was active in Brussels and Geneva in generating content designed to undermine Pakistan primarily.

Objectives of Disinformation networks

  • In India, to reinforce pro-Indian and anti- Pakistan (and anti-Chinese) feelings internationally.
  • Consolidate and improve the perception of India.
  • To damage the reputation of other countries and ultimately gain support from international institutions such as the EU and the UN.

  • UN-accredited NGOs work in coordination with non-accredited think-tanks and minority-rights NGOs in Brussels and Geneva.

2. Indian sponsored attacks on Pakistan via Afghan soil

A serving officer in the Indian Navy, Kulbhushan Jhadav, was carrying out sabotage activities in Balochistan and Karachi.

After the parliament attack, Jhadav said he began to ‘contribute his services’ towards data and intelligence gathering in India.

“I’m still a working as an officer in the Indian Navy and will be due for retirement by 2022 as a commissioned officer,” said Kulbhushan Jhadav.

A report in DNA India alleged Jadhav was “involved in a legitimate business of operating ferries from the Iranian port town of Bandar Abbas.”

BLA/ BRA/ TTP terrorist attacks

There is ample evidence that Indian intl’ agencies use Afghan soil to sponsor attacks on Pakistan. Reports also revealed that the mastermind of the attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi was being treated in India.

In August of 2018, a month before the attack on the Chinese consulate, a suicide attack on a bus carrying Chinese engineers in Dalbandin caused injuries to three Chinese citizens.

In a widely-shared video on Twitter and social media, a member “Majeed Brigade” warns Chinese President Xi Jinping to “get out of Balochistan.”

Moreover, eight people were killed in the “Majeed Brigade” attack on a five-star hotel in Gwadar where the Chinese delegations stayed.

Afghan and Indian intelligence agencies gave funds and other assistance to Pakistani Taliban militants to fight Islamabad, claimed Ehsanullah Ehsan in one of his interviews.

Ehsan also alleged India’s intelligence agency (RAW) and Afghanistan’s NDS provided help to TTP.

3. India’s spoiler role in Afghanistan

A 2021 report revealed that there could be many spoilers who do not want to see peace in Afghanistan. However, four of them stand out: President Ashraf Ghani; Iran’s Fatyeamyoun Army; al-Qaeda; and India.

“Through its presence in Afghanistan, India has effectively inserted fear into the minds of Pakistani strategists that it too can manipulate existing separatist and nationalistic sentiments within Pakistan and can counter and challenge the latter’s absolute monopoly over non-state actors in the region.”

Moreover, Indian investment in Afghanistan amounts to $3bn. To prevent that from sinking, India intends to preserve the chaotic status quo in Afghanistan.

4. Indian Betrayal of US interests in Afghanistan

India has purchased a multibillion-dollar Russian missile defense system. The move could trigger U.S. sanctions against India under American law, and it would also jeopardize America’s interests in the region.

Thus far, New Delhi has signaled it has no intention of abandoning the S-400 agreement and plans to fully consummate the deal with Russia by the end of the year.

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez recently called India’s planned purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system a “matter of concern.”

If India decides to go forward with its purchase of the S-400, that action will constitute a significant, and therefore sanctionable.”
