The United States has ordered the closure of China’s consulate in Houston within 72 hours. The State Department has confirmed that the closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston was ordered to protect US investigations and privacy.
On the other hand, China has strongly condemned the US move to close the China’s consulate in Houston, calling it a unilateral political provocation.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said the closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston was a serious violation of international law, fundamental principles, and provisions of the US-China Consular Agreement.
China says the US move is a deliberate attempt to negatively impact US-China relations. If US mistakes are not corrected, China will respond appropriately.
Tensions between the United States and China have risen in recent days over Donald Trump’s allegations about the coronavirus and the Hong Kong affair.
