Stuart Broad, the fast bowler of the England cricket team, became the seventh bowler in the world to take 500 wickets in Test cricket. The English bowler did so in the third and final Test of the recent series against the West Indies.
Stuart Broad joined the 500 club with the wicket of Kraigg Braithwaite and became the second England bowler to do so. Before him, James Anderson of England has also joined the Five Hundred Club.
Sri Lankan spinner Muralidharan still holds the record for most wickets in Test cricket. Muralidharan has taken 800 wickets in Test cricket but is followed by Australian spinner Shane Warren with 708 wickets.
Indian spinner Anile Kumble is third with 619 wickets, James Anderson is fourth with 589 wickets, Australia’s Glenn McGrath is fifth with 563 wickets and West Indies’ Courtney Walsh is sixth with 519 wickets.
It should be noted that 19 years ago today, the legendary West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh became the first bowler to take 500 wickets.
