Employees of Pakistan Steel Mills protested against their dismissal, they protested on National Highway Karachi, which resulted in suspension of traffic on National Highway.
Employees of Pakistan Steel Mills protested against the dismissals and downsizing by burning tires at Steel Town Chowk and staged a sit-in on the National Highway.
Due to the protests, the traffic on the National Highway was suspended and long queues of vehicles were formed.
Four and a half thousand employees of Pakistan Steel were sacked in the name of downsizing .
It may be recalled that the federal government had sacked 4,544 employees of Pakistan Steel Mills yesterday
According to the spokesperson of Steel Mills, the employees who have been sacked include pay group 2, 3 and 4 employees besides junior officers, assistant managers, divisional managers, DCEs, DGMs and managers. Removal letters were mailed to the employees.
An employee of the steel mill also died of shock after hearing the news of dismissal, yesterday. The employees have termed the dismissals as unjust despite the assurance of the government.
In this regard, the Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hamad Azhar said that the employees will get an average of 2.3 million per employee under the Golden Handshake package, which can also reach maximum of 7 to 8 million in some cases .
