Money laundering case: opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif arrested

NAB arrests opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif

A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court heard Shahbaz Sharif’s application for interim bail in a money laundering case, in which Azam Nazir, counsel for the opposition leader, gave arguments and a NAB team was also present in the courtroom.

Shahbaz Sharif’s lawyer said in his arguments that he paid tax on all the income and also got it audited. NAB is not accepting NAB tax return after 20 years. NAB cannot calculate the difference of Rs. 26 crore so it does not accept income.

After the arrest of Shahbaz Sharif, the League workers outside the court chanted slogans against the NAB and the government, while the League workers and the police clashed on the occasion.

After the arrest, media representatives tried to talk to Shahbaz Sharif but the opposition leader did not speak on the occasion.

NAB officials took Shahbaz Sharif to Thokar Niaz Baig’s office and he will be produced in court tomorrow.

It should be noted that the court had extended the interim bail of Shahbaz Sharif till September 24 in the case of assets more than income and money laundering.

Speaking at a press conference recently, Shahbaz Sharif had alleged that Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted to arrest him.
