KARACHI: Leading TikTok star Hareem Shah has demanded Prime Minister Imran Khan to lift the ban on TikTok.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, she said that Pakistani youth were becoming famous all over the world through this app.
She said that if obscenity spreads through TikTok, then legislation should be enacted to prevent it and then the app should be shut down.
She said that the youth have no other platform where they can go and show their talent, such a move would paralyze the minds of the youth.
Hareem Shah said that it should be told whether the dramas being made in Pakistan are bringing the culture here to the fore. If TikTok is banned on the pretext of obscenity, then everything that spreads obscenity should be eliminated.
She said that there is no obscenity in TikTok it is just a platform to show talent.
It may be recalled that the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) had yesterday banned China’s popular video sharing app TikTok.
A PTA spokesman said TikTok was banned for sharing immoral and inappropriate content. The PTA has banned TikTok following public complaints.
According to the spokesperson, the PTA had given TikTok a deadline to file the final notice and reply. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed the TikTok administration about the ban.
According to the spokesperson, the decision to ban unethical content and take appropriate action could be reconsidered.
Earlier, the popular TikTok had called for the formation of a social media alliance to prevent harmful content.
