Emir of the Gulf state of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has died at the age of 91.
Amir Kuwait underwent surgery in his home country in July, after which he left for the United States for full treatment.
On September 14, the Kuwaiti prime minister briefed the cabinet on his recovery.
According to the foreign news agency, the Emir of Kuwait was undergoing treatment in the United States, where he died today, which has been confirmed by the authorities.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has expressed condolences over the death of the Emir of Kuwait. In his statement, he said that during the tenure of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, Pakistan-Kuwait relations were expanded and the Emir of Kuwait was a peace loving ruler.
It should be noted that Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait in 2006 and held this position until his illness.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has also been the Prime Minister of Kuwait while he was also the Foreign Minister of Kuwait for 40 years.
After his death, his 83-year-old half-brother, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah, is expected to become emir of Kuwait, but a formal announcement will be made in a few days.
