Drain cleaning task to be started in Karach tomorrow, Chairman NDMA

Drain cleaning work in Karachi will start from tomorrow

NDMA Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Afzal has said that large-scale cleaning of Karachi drains will start from tomorrow.

Talking to media in Islamabad, Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal said that the Prime Minister had directed him to go to Karachi and take charge of the situation. He reached Karachi where he had three meetings with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Expressing regret over the damage caused by rains in Karachi, the Chairman NDMA said that the problems of Karachi need to be understood, therefore, steps are being taken to solve the problems in the current season.

He said that there have been encroachments around the sewerage system which needs to be eliminated. A lot of new construction is also a hindrance in proper drainage of the water.

He said that rains are expected in Karachi from 7th to 10th August.
